Two Days in Brighton by Sophie Harper

Have you ever wanted to visit Brighton UK?

righton England UK Beach Love Everything Travel.

Already one of England’s most loved seaside resorts, Brighton can charm the socks off anyone who strolls along its pier, down the lanes or across the seafront. Brighton has to be my favourite seaside town in the UK, packed to the brim with character, extravagance and colour, it really has something for everyone. Katie and I headed down to Brighton for a fun filled two days, here’s what we got up to..

On Friday of last week we drove down to Brighton, accompanied by a tummy full of hearty breakfast and a playlist packed with pop-punk cheese! What more could you need for a road trip?

We arrived at around 11am in Brighton and headed straight for the pier. On our stroll, we passed some sweet little independent boutiques and cafes, all overlooking the pebbled beach. We indulged in some tasty pancakes smeared with Nutella and banana as we made our way down the rickety wooden walkway. I don’t think I have ever witnessed someone win a teddy from one of the grabber machines in the arcade but somehow Katie managed it!

To finish off our tour of Brighton Pier we took a spin on the dodgems. No seaside trip is complete without a go on the fair right?

Making our way up to the North Laine, we passed in and out of the lanes which are adorned with vintage record stores, cake shops and shabby chic boutiques. We came across some lovely art boutiques selling unique pieces, just like these beautiful hand decorated canvases from Amber-Jane Raab.

I couldn’t resist a quick stop off at the mothership Choccywoccydoodah café and shop ( even though it is very pricey – around £10 for a small chocolate lollipop!). The crafted cakes and chocolate designs here are breathtaking and it was great spending time taking in the beautiful edible sculptures. I think I even prefer this shop to the one in Carnaby, London.

After all the chocolate we had developed quite the appetite. We stopped off at Wahaca Mexican Market to indulge in some nachos with guac and salsa, tapas style nibbles and mojitos. The staff here were so friendly and the food accompanied by cocktails were superb.

It wasn’t until around 3pm that we checked into our hotel for the evening, Hotel Pelirocco located on Regency Square. From an outside perspective, the hotel fits in neatly alongside all the other little hotels on the square with nothing out of the ordinary to behold but on the inside it’s a very different story. Pelirocco is coated in a kitsch, eclectic, artsy mix of décor and is miles away from your usual seaside haunt. Each room here is themed, from their “Pretty Vacant”  Sex Pistols, punk inspired room to the rockabilly room where we stayed which is adorned with nods to 50’s musicians, vintage décor and even its own tikki bar complete with record player! The room was light and airy with a side view of the sea and an equally lovely view of the square. The hotel itself is super quirky and artsy, ideal for people looking for a seaside stay with a twist.

That evening we visited Cocktail Shack  also located on Regency Square and had some exquisite tasting and looking cocktails. The surroundings here felt really cosy and intimate too, definitely worth a stop off!

One of the most wonderful vegetarian restaurants I have ever had the pleasure of visiting has to be Food For Friends  A fresh, relaxed atmosphere with a vibrant, well thought out menu and very friendly, helpful staff. The mushroom “scallops” and the goats cheese soufflé was a real winner, along with a side of truffle mayonisse chips!

If you haven’t already I urge you to pay Brighton a visit or if you have already been, go again and continue to discover more of what this beautiful seaside town has to offer!
